These works are a part of an on-going body of work started during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, titled “We See This”. As an artist who worked primarily with human subjects and derived inspiration from everyday interactions, during this time I was challenged to extend myself creatively and find artistic inspiration from the unassuming objects, spaces, and moments within my immediate surroundings. Solitude became a surprising source of insight, enabling me to stretch my imagination and capture human themes in often overlooked fragments of life, transforming them into colorful, emotive works of art.
These chosen works best reflect my process of photographing objects in my home or areas that caught my attention in the city, including Grand Central Station and Midtown, and altering them by cropping, layering, and adding graphic details. While my process was instinctive, every subject clearly had the potential to exist as something more.
I believe that turning nothing into something starts with a vision. As a self-taught artist, I hope this series will inspire others to see beyond existing norms and see potential within themselves where they had not seen it before.
